Which Is The Best Cruising Catamaran?

written by Terysa September 18, 2019

What IS the best cruising catamaran? Well in this episode we reveal all. The definitive result, so far. If you don’t want to run through the whole video, this is the top 3:

09:12 3rd place
10:52 2nd place
12:43 1st place

Over the last three months we have been reviewing every cruising catamaran we could. Our plan is to choose one of these as our next boat. We developed an app, we asked YOU to review the boats along with us. So far we have over 1000 online reviews. This is now the largest collection of reviews anywhere on the internet. The results are yours, not ours. No bias, no dealer spin, just averages from your scores.

Watch the individual catamaran reviews here:

The job is not over. We are now heading to more boat shows to look at lots of models. So Knysna, Maverick, Majestic, Antares and many others are still to come.

Hi Guys,
This is amazing what you are doing keep going and all the best!
I was looking the other day Bali 5.4 to buy , did you see this catamaran and what is your opinion.
All the best.

Hey Marko! Thanks for your comment. The Bali seems great for island hopping and being at anchor, but it’s not on our shortlist as it’s not really designed for long term liveaboard cruising. But if your plans don’t include that, then it’s a great choice!

Hi Terysa, So a statement such as not designed for the long term liveaboard cruising begs the question “Why not?”. The space seems fairly condusive to liveaboard on most Bali’s. The cruising definately would be a bast and mainsail access difficulty. Then there is the solid foreddeck and everything that comes with it. After 5+ years I haven’t heard of Bali’s swamping detrimentally, nor do I hear issues with the drastically shortening Leopard traps to allow for large foredeck sitting areas. So outside of the the perception of the foredeck and the boom being so darn high, was there anything else that knocked the Bali’s off the short list?

Hi, Frank. Did you ever get an answer? We are looking very hard at the Bali 4.6 and want to be sure it’s the best choice.

So if money wasn’t an issue would it be an Amel 55 my fave mono or Outremar51/Seawind 1600.

I really like your reviews and to put the tape measure on the bed and get the size is super important to me, however I would lover to have the height from top of bed to the ceiling as well because my wife is claustrophobic.
I know that sailing is not part of your review but I would be very interested how rocky the boat is comparing for instance your favorite performance cats with for instance nautitech/ your highest ranked cruising cat

Hi Teresa really enjoying watching you guys,
Not lucky enough to be in a relationship, so could you also include in you yacht reviews how easy or not in both of your opinions they are to handle single handed.
Maybe have it as a separate category for all us solo sailors out on the briny, many thanks.
May you both always have a safe passage.
