Welcome to another Technical Tuesday episode!
This week Nick’s topic is anchoring, and more specifically, how to anchor like a Superyacht! The title comes from a conversation we had with superyacht crew last year about how they anchor, and although we thought our anchoring technique was pretty good at the time, we adopted some of their tips and found that it really did make a difference!
Nick goes through, step by step, optimum anchoring technique that will (hopefully!) prevent you from dragging or worrying about your anchor. Anchoring can be a bit of an art rather than a science, especially when it comes to picking a position and manoeuvring within a crowded anchorage, but we try and break down the process and explain it step-by-step.
As ever, if you have anything to add, or your own foolproof anchoring technique that works for you, please leave comments and share the knowledge!

Nick, I really liked the blog on how to anchor your sailboat. I have never been a sailor, but have fished my entire life
and everything you sail works just as well for an 18 ft. powerboat. just good to know some principles are safe to depend on. From an oldster who really enjoys your posts and yes I am a patreon. Bill Moore South Carolina
Thanks very much Bill, glad you enjoyed the video!
Hello Nick
As a retired Captain of Super Tankers I would suggest you stop your vessel and only walk out the anchor
when you are going astern. This ensures you do not pile up the chain on top of the anchor and also digs
the anchor flukes into the sea bed!
Safe sailing,
Robert
Exactly. That’s also what we advise. Thanks for commenting! ☺
